Giving back

What we're
doing

Owyhee High School Lacrosse is giving back to our community. Players will volunteer at the Boise Rescue Mission's Next Step location, helping make sandwiches, assemble sack lunches, and pitch in wherever else the kitchen needs hands.

This is a chance for our players to serve together as a team off the field and make a difference in our community. We'd love to have as many players there as possible.

Parents: put December 12 on your calendar and sign your player up early. The Mission requires our complete volunteer list a full week before the date, so the club has to close sign-ups on Friday, December 5.

Before you go

What to wear

Comfortable, respectful clothing. Closed-toed shoes are required — it's a working kitchen, and anyone in sandals will be turned away.

Handling food

Hairnets and gloves are provided when you arrive. Before touching any food, every volunteer has to:

  • Put on a hairnet.
  • Wash hands.
  • Put on gloves. In that order — gloves go on after the wash, not before.

Parking and arrival

Park in the lot or on the street; either is fine.

  • Sign in on the Volunteer Sign-In Sheet in the kitchen as soon as you arrive.
  • Orientation is short — the day's meal prep and kitchen safety.
  • Sign out before you leave. The Mission counts hours off that sheet.

About the Mission

Who we're
helping

Boise Rescue Mission Ministries runs shelters, meals and recovery programs across the Treasure Valley. Next Step, on Curtis Road, is one of its facilities — and the kitchen there puts out meals that go straight out the door the same day.
